Women's Basketball Jumps Out to 2-0 Start

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team won its second game in as many days on Friday night, topping Clarks Summit University 83-44. After the first half of play, the Knights were winning 46-19 and ended up cruising to the 39-point win.

Southern Virginia (2-0) was able to put four different players in double figures, with forwards Shelby Butler and Katie Garrish scoring 18 and 14 points, respectively, and guards Alexus Barnes and Abby Olsen scoring 10 each.

The defense was key for the Knights as they held the Defenders (0-2) to 26% shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers. The squad also played solid team ball, assisting on 23 of its 35 field goals.

Freshman Lorna-lei Sua'ava led the team with 12 rebounds to go along with seven points in only 17 minutes of play, while junior Nicole Muse dished out five assists and grabbed five rebounds.

The Knights will look to extend their winning streak on Tuesday in their home opener against Randolph College. The game is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Knight Area.
