Buena Vista, Va.—The Southern Virginia Knights lost a non-conference doubleheader to Mary Baldwin College today, losing at home 13-3 and 21-3.
In game one five different Knights had hits in the five-inning loss. After two innings the Knights trailed 3-1, due to a Jamie Pinkston single and score on a Mary Baldwin (3-15, 1-11) error, before allowing two five-run innings by the Fighting Squirrels.
Two more Knight runs came with two outs in the fourth inning when Pinkston, who reached first base on an error, scored on a Makayla Brown single followed by a Bailey Brannan double which scored Brown.
Mary Baldwin's Katie Dickinson earned the win while Pinkston pitched all five innings and gave up seven earned runs in the loss. First baseman Olivia Compton had two hits and four RBI's for the guests.
The Fighting Squirrels were off to a quick start in game two, scoring seven and eight runs in the first two innings. The first of the Knights' three runs came in the first inning when right fielder Katierose Helems singled and scored on a Lainie Thompson single.
Like game one the Knights scored their final two runs in the fourth inning. Second baseman MaKenzie Cox reached first on an error, Pinkston reached base on a fielder's choice and Brown walked, loading the bases for Keelie Gray. Gray reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Cox and leaving the bases loaded. During the ensuing at bat Pinkston scored on a wild pitch before Mary Baldwin retired the inning.
The Knights fall to 0-7 on the season and continue to search for their first victory as they prepare to face CAC opponents Mary Washington and Christopher Newport on Friday and Saturday at Harvey-Dryden Field.
