BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Sothern Virginia University softball team fell to No. 2-ranked Salisbury University in a rescheduled twinbill Monday afternoon at Harvey-Dryden Field by respective scores of 11-0 and 14-0 with both games ending in five innings of play.

In game one, the Seagulls (18-1) took control of the game early as they scored six runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a Kim Dorsey two-RBI double. Salisbury would go on to score two more in the top of the second and three in the top of the fifth. Dorsey led the Seagulls on the day going 3-3 from the plate along with five RBI.

The visitors would not need much offense as junior starting pitcher Rachel Johnson struck out 13 Knight batters and threw a no-hitter to improve to 11-0 this season.

Southern Virginia starting pitcher Cassandra Pacheco took the loss in the decision, giving up 11 runs on nine hits while striking out two.

Game Two saw much of the same as Salisbury jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead through two complete innings, highlighted by a Katie Sebbane grand slam in the top of the second.

The Knights (0-12) recorded two hits off Seagull pitchers as freshman Katie Evans doubled to right center field and McKell Lajeunesse singled to the left side. That would be all the offense Southern Virginia would be allowed as Salisbury starter Kathryn Larson (8-1) recorded five strikeouts in four innings to pick up the victory.

Jamie Pinkston took the loss for the Knights, giving up 14 runs on 13 hits and striking out one in five innings.

Softball is back in action Wednesday as it hosts Maine-Presque Isle at Harvey-Dryden Field in a tripleheader. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
