ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.—The Southern Virginia University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the young season Friday night falling 53-70 at NCAA Division II Elizabeth City State University.

Southern Virginia (3-1) led only once at Elizabeth City (1-0) when a jumper from sophomore forward Jonathan Jacobson (Kitty Hawk, N.C.) put the Knights up 12-10 just under two-minutes into the first half. The Knights' advantage was short-lived, however, as the Vikings reclaimed the lead thirty-seconds later and never relinquished it again on the way to a 17-point victory over Southern Virginia.

Senior swingman Spenser Briggs (Goldsboro, N.C.) led the Knights with 13 points on the night to go along with his game-high four steals. Sophomore shooting guard Anders Jacobson (Kitty Hawk, N.C.), was the only other Knight to reach double figures adding 10 points in the defeat.

Saturday marked the Knights' first loss in 11 contests dating back to last season when Southern Virginia fell on Feb. 16 at NCAA Division I Longwood University.

The Knights are off for a week, before embarking on eight-day, five-game road trip to the mountain west. Southern Virginia will begin its trip out west on Friday, Nov. 18 with a game against Carroll College at 7:30 p.m. MDT.
