Baseball's Comeback Cut Short by No. 2 Captains, 8-7

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell short Friday afternoon after a late comeback attempt against the No.2 Christopher Newport Captains was not enough, losing 8-7.

The Captains (25-3, 12-1) jumped out to take a 2-0 lead. The Knights (13-11, 4-8) followed by scoring a run in both the bottom of the first and second innings to tie the game at two all.

The Knights struggled to slow down the powerful Captains offense early in the game trailing 8-3 after four innings.

Southern Virginia's offense started to gain momentum in the bottom of the seventh where they scored four runs to bring them to within one of the Captains, 8-7.

Neither team scored for the remainder of the game sealing the 8-7 victory.

Canon Anderson anchored the Knights' offense after going 3 for 5 with a single, triple and home run to tie a game-high three RBIs. Cole Critchfield totaled two RBIs on the game after a 2 for 4 day. Jonny Soto also tallied a multiple hit game with two. Ryan Morin produced the other two RBIs for the Knights.

Austin Forsyth was on the mound in the loss, going 2.1 innings allowing three runs.

The Knights hit the road in a CAC matchup against the University of Mary Washington Wednesday, at 3: 30 p.m.
