Baseball: Hornets Top Knights

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Southern Virginia University baseball team fell 7-1 at Lynchburg College Wednesday afternoon in preseason action.

The Knights (1-3) scored their only run of the game in the second inning, an unearned run that scored Zach McNally on a Skyler Cloward single to center field.

Right-hander Seth Burris threw four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, until the Hornets' (1-2) offense came to life, scoring five runs from a double, triple and single.  

Lynchburg snagged another pair of runs in the eighth inning on another triple, followed by a single.

The Knights did have seven hits on the afternoon, including a double from shortstop Ryan Morin and pair of singles from Cloward. McNally, Ryan Saunders, Riley Daniels and Michael Stirling also recorded singles.

Burris was tagged with his second loss of the season and struck out one batter in 4.1 innings. Tanner Black threw 2.1 innings and recorded 2 K's. Justin King earned one strikeout in one inning pitched and allowed two runs.

Southern Virginia heads to Greensboro College on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
