Baseball Splits with St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.—The Southern Virginia baseball team went 1-1 against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Monday, winning game one 6-2 and falling in game two, 5-3.

Game One
After two scoreless innings, Jordan Nase and Ryan Saunders each hit RBIs to put the Knights (9-20, 5-10 CAC) ahead in the top of the third inning but the Seahawks (8-20, 4-11 CAC) responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own.

In the sixth inning Southern Virginia scored one run off of another RBI by Saunders. Cody Davis stole home in the seventh inning to give the Knights a two-run lead. In the eighth inning Zach McNally hit an RBI and Brevin Baessler scored off of a wild pitch to secure the win.

Tayler Peterson pitched all nine innings for the Knights, striking out three.

Game Two
St. Mary's scored the first run in the third inning to take their first lead of the day. In the top of the sixth the Knights responded with two runs off when Marcus Begg hit an RBI triple and later scored off of a wild pitch. St. Mary's scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake control.

In the top of the eighth inning, Ken Lane was hit by a pitch, sending Ryan Saunders home for a final run by Southern Virginia.

Seth Burris started on the mound for the Knights recording three strike outs in just over six innings. Justin King replaced Burris to finish the game earning a strike out of his own.

Southern Virginia hosts the University of Mary Washington for their senior night on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. in Covington, Virginia.
