Women's Cross Country Selected Fifth in CAC Preseason Poll

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Capital Athletic Conference released the 2017 preseason coaches' poll, positioning the Southern Virginia University women's cross country team with a fifth-place finish.

The conference favorite will be back-to-back champions York (Pa.), while Christopher Newport and Salisbury also received first-place votes.

The Knights jumped four places higher in the poll than the 2017 season after a strong appearance at the CAC championships. Southern Virginia will host the CAC championships for the first time on Oct. 27.

"This is going to be a fun season, we have a good number of new athletes," said head coach Clint May. "There are still some unknowns about the team this season, I look forward to the development of our athletes and building up to the CAC championships."

The 2018 season begins on Friday, Aug. 31 at Mary Washington.
