GREENSBORO, N.C. – Both Southern Virginia University cross country teams beat out the competition this week, placing first their division in the men's 8K race and second in the women's 5K race.
The Knights dominated the top positions in both races. With a personal-best time of 19:20.60, Morgan Bingham took first for the women in the NCAA D-III division and second overall. On the men's side, Mike Meyers took first for the men in the division with a time of 26:55.95.
Colter May and Kevin Shelley joined their teammate in the top five with times of 27:40.82 and 28:27.09, respectively. Braden Robbins, Brandon Shelley, John Curnutt, Nelson Rader, Greyson Meyer and Travis Chisholm also competed well and finished in the top 20 of the 43 NCAA D-III competitors.
The women were equally as impressive with Bobbe May, Aly Abel, and Kate Huber joining Bingham to finish in the top 10 with times of 20:35.80, 22:43.58 and 22:46.23, respectively. All the women set personal records for their 5K times during the event.
"I am very proud of Michael Myers, Morgan Bingham, and Bobbe May who all finished in the top 10 regardless of the division," said head coach Clint May. "I am very happy with all of our runners and especially proud of the women's team running the fastest they have thus far. We are looking forward to this weekend where we will run a race similar to the Capital Athletic Conference Championship."
The Knights will be back in action this Saturday, October 14 at the Gettysburg Invitational.
