BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's cross country team starts the 2017 season this week and was picked to finish ninth, according to the Capital Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll.
Sophomore Aly Abel is the lone returner for the Knights, bringing experience to a young team. Abel competed in the CAC Championship last season and was one of only two Knight runners to compete in the NCAA D-III Regional Championship.
With a host of new freshmen, the Knights will be looking to the first years to showcase their prowess.
"Our new runners, Morgan Bingham, Bobbe May, Kate Huber, and Cass Mingl are coming with great attitudes and backgrounds of high achievement in a variety of areas," second-year head coach Clint May said. "The patterns of commitment that they have developed will no doubt help us to succeed as a team."
The Knights begin their season on Friday, Sept. 1 as they travel to Fredericksburg, Va. to compete in the Mary Washington Triangular.
