BUENA VISTA, Va.—Sophomore Leah Huber (Castle Rock, Colo.) of the Southern Virginia University women's cross country team was named today to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track/Cross Country First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
"Leah has been one of our top performers these past two years in competition and academically," said second-year Head Coach Logan Davis. "I'm proud of her for winning the well-deserved award."
The all-district teams are divided into eight districts and are separated by NCAA Divisions I, II, III and College Division—including NAIA, two-year and independent institutions. To be recognized, one must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and serve as a key contributor to the team.
Huber was selected from District One, which is comprised of colleges and universities from 16 different states ranging from Maine to North Carolina. She will also be considered for the Capital One Academic All-American Team to be announced the end of June.
Outside of her accomplishments in the classroom, Huber had a solid sophomore campaign at Southern Virginia, helping women's cross country to its second consecutive USCAA National Championship with a 10th place finish in the race, good enough for her second straight USCAA All-American nomination in as many years.
In addition to being named to the 2012 USCAA All-Academic team, Huber was also honored on the All-Capital Athletic Conference Second Team after finishing 13th in the CAC Cross Country Championship meet thanks to a 25:27.56 time in the 6K race.
Huber is the second academic all-district selection in women's cross country program history—Shaina Brown-White was given the award in 2008.
