Women's Cross Country Finishes Strong For Fifth At USCAA National Meet

CONCORD, N.H. - Riding personal bests from several runners, the Southern Virginia University women's cross country team faced strong competition at the USCAA National Invitational Meet, and came home with a fifth place finish. Leila Schultz was the first runner to cross the finish line for the Knights, with a time of 27:24 over the 6k course. Cassandra Cooper ran her best race of the year and her career, as she finished in a time of 28:12. The duo helped give the Knights three top-50 finishes, as Madeleine Jeppson also ran a personal best, and came in four runners behind Cooper.

SVU was tied with Marygrove College at 164 points, and trailed only team winners St. Mary's of The Woods, SUNY- College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Penn State- Worthington Scranton, and Paul smith's College. The Knights came in front of Unity College, New Hampshire Tech, Washington Adventist, and Lindenwood University- Belleville.

Laura Richins was the next runner for SVU to finish, and she was followed by Alena Harris, who also ran a personal best. Victoria Isham rounded out the finishers for the Knights. The rain was held on a cold rainy day, and had 86-runners.

The night before, SVU had two runners honored, as Schultz and Jeppson were named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team. The award goes to student-athletes with 3.5 GPA's and higher, and for students that are sophomores or older.
