SALEM, Va. Senior runner, Leila Schultz, used a 10th place finish to help the Southern Virginia women's cross country team finish third at the Maroon Invitational. Schultz's time of 23:31 helped give the Knights a total of 94-points, and gave them the third place finish in front of Bluefield State College, Bluefield College, and Averett College. The third place finish represents gives the Knights another top-five finish this season after finishing second at the Marlin Invitational.
Cassandra Cooper was the next SVU runner to come in, as she finished in 26:07 over the 5k course. Madeleine Jeppson received a top-30 spot with a time of 26:55, good for the 29th spot in the group of 57.
Alena Harris came in next for the Knights followed by Cameryn Lee and Victoria Isham finishing within 52-seconds of each other. Isham rounded out the finishers for the Knights, and helped them get the points necessary to hold off Bluefield State College's run. The Knights finished behind Invitational hosts Roanoke College and Mary Baldwin College.
Cross Country does not return to action until Oct. 9.
