VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. The Southern Virginia Women's Cross Country team opened the season on the road at the Marlin invitational, and took second behind Virginia Wesleyan, 15-40. The Knights had a runner finish in the top six, as Leila Schultz finished with a time of 27.11 over the 5808 meter course.

Cassie Cooper finished two minutes later, and helped the Knights' overall scores. Laura Richie and Maddie Jeppson rounded out the top-ten, as they finished at 31.19, and 32.15 respectively.

SVU now turns its attention to a Sep. 11 trip to Lexington, Va. and a place in the Generals Invitational. The invitational is hosted by Washington and Lee University.
