Women Runners Finish Second at VSU Last Chance Run

RICHMOND, Va. With all runners of the Southern Virginia Women's Cross Country team grouped from places 7 through 13, the Knights were pushed to a second place finish at the VSU Last Chance Run. The strong finish is the highest for the Knights this season, and keeps them on pace to attend the USCAA National Invitational.

Amy Steflik was the highest finishing runner for the Knights as she came in at the seventh position. Following her closely were Tori Isham (8th) and Mary Massey (9th). The trio allowed the Knights to have the second highest total of top-ten finishes for the 5k run.

"You always want your runners to finish strong, and as close together as possible," said Head Coach Leslie McKinney. "Three in the top ten is a good day's work. I'm happy with our finish, and I think our running was strong and consistent today. You can see that especially when you look at the next few runners outside of that first group."

Leila Schultz, Randi Rose, and Cassie Cooper finished in places 11, 12 and 13 respectively. The six runners for the Knights helped them accumulate 47 points for the afternoon. SVU will return to running action Oct. 17 when they travel to participate in the Quaker Invitational hosted by Guilford College.
