NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team (14-9, 4-3 CAC) suffered a tough loss at the hands of the No. 23 Captains of Christopher Newport (20-4, 6-1 CAC) 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
In the first of the three games, the Captains managed to jump up early on the Knights and fend them off for the rest of the game, taking game one 19-25.
Southern Virginia came out tougher in game two, however, and managed to play point for point with Christopher Newport until the 15-15 mark, where the Captains separated themselves from the Knights by a couple points. Southern Virginia put forward a tough fight, but the Captains never relinquished their lead, taking the game 21-25.
Game three played out similarly to game one in that Christopher Newport held a lead the majority of the game and ended up winning it 21-25.
Some highlights for the Knights included good games from Hailey Lohnes and Ella Burrows who recorded nine and seven kills respectively. Setter LaRee Crockett also played well, recording 22 assists and 12 digs on the afternoon.
Wednesday's matchup was Southern Virginia's last conference match for the regular season. The Knights managed to clinch the No. 4 seed in this year's CAC conference tournament and will play the first round of the tournament at home on Tuesday, October 30. Their opponent for that match will depend upon other games yet to play out in the CAC.
The Knights will play one more non-conference game at the University of Lynchburg before the CAC tournament . The game is scheduled for the 26th of October beginning at 7:00 p.m.
