BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team swept Frostburg State University on senior night in front of their home crowd 3-0.
The Knights (13-7, 4-1) seized control of the conference matchup in the first set, hitting a solid .273 percent and tallying 15 kills as a team. Lone senior Allison Tiegs paced the team's offense with six kills, giving Southern Virginia the 25-20 win.
In the second set, the Bobcats (9-19, 4-1) attempted a comeback when they trailed the Knights 24-19, scoring four straight points. The final point came in the set when LaRee Crockett passed over to Hailey Lohnes for the final kill, ending the set 25-23.
The lead was on rotation in the third set until the two teams were deadlocked at 17-17. After a Bobcat miscue, freshman Ella Burrows stepped up, registering three straight aces. The Knights capitalized on the momentum switch, closing out the set strong, with the final point coming from Mykynli Knight finding Rath, ending the game 25-22.
Knight was everywhere at the libero position, recording a game-high 28 digs, including some key digs down the stretch for Southern Virginia.
Crockett registered another game with at least 35 assists, her 10th of the season.
Two Knights, Rath and Tiegs hit double figures in kills with 12 and 10 and Burrows led the game in total blocks with four.
The Knights will close out their season on a four-game road trip. The Knights will travel to play Saturday, Oct. 20 at York (Pa.) at 12:00 p.m. and then at 2:00 p.m. Hood College.
