BRIDGEWATER, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team competed against Bridgewater College Wednesday night in a non-conference bout, losing the game in three straight sets.
The Eagles (17-4, 5-1) ran away with the first set, collecting 15 kills and hitting a .286 percentage. The Knights (11-5, 2-1) attempted a comeback, getting the game back to within two points at 13-11 but were unsuccessful, dropping the set 25-17.
The Knights looked to bounce back in the second set but could not slow down the Eagles offense. Bridgewater went on to record 16 kills and hit an even higher percentage than the first set with a .316. Southern Virginia had small stints of good play but was unable to put away the entire set, falling in set two 25-16.
In the third set was the Knights' best of the night, where they hit a .156 clip compared to the Eagles .111. Southern Virginia led most of the set and at one point were wining 17-11. After a Bridgewater timeout, the Eagles scored four points, bringing the game within two at 17-15. The rest of the game was neck-and-neck until the Eagles surpassed the Knights, scoring the last two points, ending the set 25-23 and the game 3-0.
Hailey Lohnes led the team with kills (10) and digs (13), Ella Burrows and senior Allison Tiegs each earned three total blocks, and LaRee Crockett recorded 26 assists, 10 digs and two service aces, round out the Knights game-highs.
The Knights aim to rebound after the tough-loss, hosting the University of Lynchburg Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Knight Arena.
