HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team swept Eastern Mennonite (25-20, 25-20, 25-16) Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup.
In set one, the Knights went back and forth with the Royals until the last seven points, where the Knights were able to capitalize taking five of the seven points to win the set.
In the second set, Southern Virginia was able to get in front of the Royals and not look back, increasing their lead to as much as nine. The Royals attempted to storm back into the game late scoring five consecutive points, but the Knights were able to secure the final point on a Kaely Rath kill.
Southern Virginia finished the third set hitting .233, with an impressive 17 points coming directly from kills to close out the Royals.
The Knights had a strong showing from freshman Ella Burrows, with seven kills, three blocks, and an impressive .357 hitting percentage. Mykynli Knight and Hailey Lohnes each recorded 15 digs, with Lohnes adding a team-high 11 kills. Senior Allison Tiegs added seven kills and hit .264, with sophomore Lindsay Hyer contributing five kills, two blocks and a team-high of .364.
The Knights end their three-game road trip Friday, Oct. 5 when they play Roanoke College at 7:00 p.m. The Knights played the Maroons earlier this season where the Knights were victorious three sets to one.
