Southern Virginia Finishes Second Day at W&L Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team wrapped up there second day at the Washington and Lee Invitational Saturday night playing DeSales and Washington and Lee, dropping both games 3-0.

In game one,  the Knights face DeSales losing sets 26-24, 25-15, and 25-23. The team combined for 28 errors in game one. Ella Burrows was the only hitter with double figures tallying 11 kills, while LaRee Crockett added 32 assists and 13 digs and Mykynli Knight producing team-high 17 digs. Haley Lohnes had a game high of four service aces.

In game two against the hosting college Washington and Lee, the Knights fell in three straight sets 25-22, 25-23, and 25-15. Lohnes and Burrows led the hitters with 19 kills combined respectively. Lindsay Hyer contributed with five total blocks in the match and Knight with the game-high in digs 14.

The W&L Invitational announced the All-Tournament Team consisting of seven players Kortney Meyer (Lewis & Clark), Ka'anelaokapu'uwai Pakaki-Pias (Lewis & Clark), Annika San Nicolas (Lewis & Clark), Ashleigh Meade (W&L), Brynne Gould (W&L), Gabby Savite' (DeSales) and Mykynli Knight (Southern Virginia).

Knight compiled for the tournament, 54 digs, five assists and two service aces.

"We had unforced errors, those will go away as you get more experience," said Head Coach Debby Baker. "We had some positives that we saw and we focus on those areas and we will learn and review our weaker areas learn and move forward."

The Knights next game will be the home opener against Lynchburg Friday Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Knight Arena.
