Women's Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team defeated Emory & Henry College in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, pushing the Knights to five-straight victories.

Southern Virginia (5-0) swept the Wasps (0-5) in three straight games25-18, 25-13, and 25-20. In set one the Knights capitalized on a multitude of hitting errors from the Wasps, in set two the Knights earned nine service aces, and in set three Southern Virginia secured the win with a strong and steady tempo.

The Knights exhibited control over the match serving 14 service aces. Allison Tiegs led the attack with a team high of 11 kills, with teammate Kaely Rath also adding 10 kills. Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week LaRee Crocket earned 22 assists and led the team in digs with seven.

"We did a great job serving tonight," said Head Coach Debby Baker. "Kaely had a great night serving and hitting for us. Also we made each serve tough and did a good job keeping them out of their system."

Southern Virginia will play next in the Washington and Lee Invitational, Sept.7 at 4:30 p.m. in Lexington, Virginia.
