Women's Volleyball Stays Perfect in Conference Play With Win Over Frostburg

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team wons its ninth straight game Saturday in a 3-1 defeat of Frostburg State to improve to a perfect 3-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play. 

"I'm so proud of how hard the team worked and the discipline it took to finish today," head women's volleyball coach Nicole Gwynn said. "We were able to grit our teeth and battle for the win. It was a challenge but we never stopped fighting."  

The Knights (13-4, 3-0 CAC) took the first set 25-21 behind a match-high .333 attack percentage. During the set, Southern Virginia led by as many as seven points. 

A back-and-forth second set required extra points, finally coming to an end in the Knights' favor, 28-16. Frostburg State (13-8, 1-2 CAC) snagged the third set, 25-21, before the Knights finished off the match with a 25-22 win. 

Senior Hannah Allred recorded a season-high 23 kills and had 12 digs with this weeks CAC Co-Player of the Week Penny Gwynn put up a double-double with 20 kills and 20 digs. The only player with more digs was libero Mykynli Knight, who had 25.

Setter LaRee Crockett, who recorded 15 digs, set a new career-high with 51 assists in the win. Claire Houghtaling added 10 digs and freshman Hailey Lohnes picked up a season-high 16 kills. 

The Bobcats out-blocked the Knights 19-8, but Southern Virginia recorded a .223 kill percentage compared to .162 by the host team.

The Knights will head to Hollins University for a mid-week non-conference matchup before hosting CAC opponent York (Pa.) on Friday night, and Penn St.-Harrisburg and Bridgewater on Saturday.
