BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team cruised to its fourth straight win, and third straight sweep with a decisive 3-0 victory against Emory & Henry College.
The Knights (8-4) took an early lead over the Wasps (4-10) in game one but relinquished the lead midway through the set. After a Southern Virginia timeout, the Knights scored 14 of the next 20 points to take a 25-20 win.
Game two saw six straight points from the service line by Mykynli Knight and later by Penny Gwynn. LaRee Crockett added five to the scoreboard from the service line later in the set, capped off by a Hannah Allred service ace to finish game two, 25-7. Southern Virginia recorded a kill percentage of .474 in the middle set.
In the third set, the Knights held Emory & Henry to 12 points to seal the sweep.
Allred led all hitters with 12 kills and recorded nine digs. Knight, the libero, led all players with 11 digs and tallied five assists. Crockett finished with 27 assists and a pair of service aces. Penny Gwynn, Hailey Lohnes, and Allison Tiegs each earned seven kills in the match.
The Knights are back in action on Monday with a 7 p.m. game at Roanoke.
