BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team won their third straight match on Wednesday night, in a decisive 3-0 sweep of Roanoke College.
The Knights (7-4) fell behind early in the first set but rallied back to tie the game at 12. After trading points, the Knights pulled away for the 25-18 win. During set number two Southern Virginia conceded the first point, but never trailed by more than two, finishing off the Maroons (6-7) 25-13.
In the third set, Roanoke took an early lead after scoring the first four points. Southern Virginia answered right back with four points of their own. After three consecutive sideouts, the Knights scored ten straight points with Penny Gwynn at the service line to record their biggest lead of the night. The Maroons did make a 10-4 run late in the set, but the Knights pulled away with the 25-21 victory to complete the sweep.
Senior Hannah Allred led all hitters with 16 kills (.464 kill percentage) along with three serving aces. Gwynn and freshman Hailey Lohnes recorded eight kills apiece. Setter LaRee Crockett recorded 31 assists.
Libero Mykynli Knight dug up 14 attacks, and Gwynn added 10.
The Knights will look for their fourth straight win and third straight sweep at home against Emory & Henry on Friday at 7 p.m.
