Trojans Overcome Knights

ETTRICK, Va.—Southern Virginia volleyball was defeated by Virginia State University three sets to one on Friday night in Daniel Gymnasium.

The Knights (4-10) came out strong and took the first set 25-15. However, the Trojans (6-6) battled back and took the next three sets 25-15, 25-21, 25-15.

Outside hitters Allison Tiegs and Hannah Phillips added the Knight offense with 7 and 6 kills. Senior Melissa Owen added to the attack with 5 kills. Junior Delaney Layton and Phillips led the defense ending the contest each with 9 digs.

Southern Virginia was unable to overcome being out attacked 45 to 29 kills. Freshman Tiara Ramey contributed 19 of the 45 kills for Virginia State leading her team to victory.
