BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia women's volleyball team earned their first home victory of the season on Thursday as they beat Randolph College 3-1 in four highly competitive contests.
The Knights (4-9) took games one and two (26-24, 15-18) before suffering a close 25-23 loss in game three. Then, in front of a blacked out crowd the Knights took game four from the Wildcats 25-20.
Southern Virginia had a strong offensive presentation with 47 team kills, compared with Randolph's (2-12) 32. Freshman Allison Tiegs led all players with 17 kills and 17 digs while Hannah Phillips added 12 kills and 11 digs of her own.
Sophomore Valerie Baety set for the Knights and recorded 40 assists and 12 digs.
Southern Virginia also had 12 serving aces during the match, over half of them coming from Tiegs.
It's a busy weekend for the Knights as they had to Virginia State and Chowan Universities on Friday and Saturday.
