Volleyball Splits at Concord Tri-Match

ATHENS, W.Va—The Knights earned their third win of the season defeating Bluefield College 3-1 on Tuesday in match one, before falling 3-1 to Concord University in match two of the Concord tri-match.

Allison Tiegs, Hannah Phillips, and Claire Houghtaling led the attack on the Rams with 17, 14, and 10 kills each. The Knights (3-9) out-attacked Bluefield (4-8) 50-43 kills in the contest. 

Freshman Ofa Moa-Sam Fong continues to be a defensive threat finishing with 22 digs. Emma Evans added to the win with 2 blocks.

In the second match the Knights took the first set 25-23.  The Mountain Lions (1-9) battled back and won 25-19 in the second set before capturing the last two sets 25-16 and 25-23 to clench the victory.

Outside hitter Tiegs led the Knights again with 11 kills, Phillips chipped in 10 kills. Houghtaling and junior Delaney Layton recorded 19 and 14 digs.

Southern Virginia will have a week off before hosting Randolph College in the Knights Sports Arena at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 in Buena Vista, Virginia.
