Volleyball Falls 3-1 at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va.—Despite a well-played match and a second set win, the Southern Virginia volleyball team dropped their match at Lynchburg College on Wednesday night 3-1.

Southern Virginia (1-5) fell to the Hornets (3-2) 25-23 in the first set of the contest. The Knights quickly bounced back and took the second set 25-19. Lynchburg finished the match winning each of the last two sets 25-19.

Despite the loss, Southern Virginia out attacked Lynchburg 48 to 38 in kills throughout the game. Freshman outside hitter Allison Tiegs earned 20 kills. Sophomore Hannah Phillips added 10 for the Knights.

Melissa Owen aided in the Knights defense with three block assists. Outside hitter Claire Houghtaling and libero, Ofa Moa-Sam Fong each had 17 digs.

Southern Virginia heads on the road to the Washington and Lee University Invitational in Lexington, Virginia on September 11 and 12 where they will face Averett, Berry, Washington and Lee, and Lynchburg throughout the weekend.
