Two Volleyball Scholar-Athletes Named All-CAC

YORK, Pa.—Following an outstanding season as members of the Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team, freshman April Bennett and junior Kaitlyn Eaton were named to the 2013 All-Capital Athletic Conference volleyball team Tuesday morning in York, Pa.

Eaton, from Syracuse, Utah, excelled as a middle blocker where she played in all 87 sets and ranked first on the team in solo blocks with 22 to go along with 41 block assists. She ranked second on the team in most kills with 209 for the year and was named to the CAC volleyball weekly honor roll once during the year. Eaton had a season high of 23 kills in a 3-2 victory over Roanoke College near the end of the season.

"Kaitlyn came in ready to be a leader and competitor on the court," said Southern Virginia head coach Paige Hiatt. "Her junior college experience prepared her to come into this conference ready to compete."

Bennett, from Kaysville, Utah, competed as an outside hitter and libero for the Knights. She played in all 87 sets, earned 15 kills, and had the second-most assists and service aces on the team with 43 and 55, respectively. Bennett led the Knights in digs with 437 on the year. She earned a spot on the CAC volleyball weekly honor roll once during the season, and had a season-high 33 digs in the 3-2 victory over Roanoke College on Oct. 26.

"April played on a great high school and club team, which pushed her to play at such a high level as a freshman for us," Hiatt said. "She has been consistent all year in her serve receive and her defense was a key part to our offense and wins.

"They both excel on and off the court and I am only excited as we return ready to compete for a conference championship next year. They will both be key factors for us."

The Knights ended their season with a 15-9 record. As a first-year CAC member, Southern Virginia was not eligible for the CAC Tournament this season due to its status as a second-year NCAA provisional member. The Knights will be eligible for CAC postseason play in 2014.
