NEWPORT NEWS, Va. —The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced Wednesday afternoon its 2013 volleyball and men's and women's soccer All-Academic teams with 12 Southern Virginia University scholar-athletes being named to the lists.
Women's volleyball head coach Paige Hiatt had two players announced to the team in junior Jamie Pinkston and senior Shyanne Ison. Pinkston received the honor for the first time while Ison has achieved the feat for three straight years since the 2011 season.
Director of Soccer Matt Grawrock had ten of his players announced on the list. On the men's side, junior Max Doxey joined seniors Nathan Seeberger and Eric Palmer as all were honored following the 2012 season, as well.
On the women's soccer team, senior Bryndel Lytle earned a spot on the list for the third year in a row since the 2011 season. Joining Lytle are six teammates in Alicia Blackham, Zoe Bradshaw, Randi Cline, MaKenzie Cox, Lora Palmer, and Victoria Slade. Cline, Cox and Palmer all earned a spot on the team for a second straight year.
Ison and Pinkston helped their team finish with a (15-9) record this season. Women's soccer will head to an NCAA Division III provisional independent tournament in Chicago, Ill., to face the Illinois Institute of Technology on Friday at 6 p.m. ET. The winner advances to face Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday at 6 p.m. ET.
