Tuttle Named USCAA Honorable Mention All-America

By Daniel Whitehead

CANTON, N.Y.—Southern Virginia University senior middle blocker Tori Tuttle was honored Tuesday afternoon by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association as an Honorable Mention All-American for her accomplishments during the 2013 season.

The USCAA honored 10 First Team, 10 Second Team and several Honorable Mention scholar-athletes for their performances during the year on the volleyball court.

Tuttle, an Anahola, Hawaii native, led the Knights with 218 kills this season for an average of 2.51 kills per set over 87 sets played.  During the year, she was credited with 20 service aces and 49 digs. Defensively, Tuttle was second on the team in both solo blocks (14) and block assists (40) for the year.

"Tori has been a great leader for our team," said Southern Virginia head coach Paige Hiatt. "She was very consistent all year and always brought a contagious competitive attitude to the court. Her peers look up to her and she leads by example. Tori is one of the happiest people I know, always brightening the day of those she interacts with. She's very deserving of this honor."

Over her career as a middle blocker, she ranks first in program history in solo blocks (96), block assists (253) and total blocks (349). Tuttle is ranked second all-time in program history in kills with 776, second in attack attempts (1,963), seventh in aces (65) and third in service attempts (599).

With her totals, she is the all-time record holder in points with 1,063.5 (776 kills, 65 assists, 96 solo blocks, 253 block assists). Tuttle also ranks second all-time in sets played (371) and matches played (108).

In their first year competing in the Capital Athletic Conference, the 2013 Knights finished the season with a 15-9 record following last Tuesday's 3-1 victory at Frostburg State.
