Volleyball Drops Both Contests at Hollins Tri-Match

ROANOKE, Va.­—The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team surrendered both games at the Hollins Tri-Match on Saturday to Hollins University (3-1) and Methodist University (3-0), extending the Knights' losing streak to four.

"We are facing some adversity as a team at this point in the season in losing four straight," said tenth-year Head Coach Michael Harmon. "Maintaining a positive attitude and coming closer as a team will allow us overcome our obstacles and attain our goals."

Although Southern Virginia (2-8) took the first set 25-21, tournament-host Hollins (4-11) bounced back and swept the next three sets 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 to win the match.

Freshman setter Katelynn Tlustek (Bedford, Ind.) was a bright spot for the Knights handing out 30 assists and recording 13 digs while freshman Shannon Romito (Walker, La.) contributed with a season-high 7 kills in the loss.

The second game of the tri-match did not bode any better as USA South Athletic Conference-member Methodist (10-5) proved to be too much sweeping all three sets (25-11, 25-13, 25-23) and giving Southern Virginia its ninth loss of the season.

The Monarchs took control in front of the net with a 24-9 kills advantage on Saturday.

Junior defensive specialist Jordan Geist (Jerome, Idaho) led the way for the Knights recording a match high 16 digs.

After playing three games within less than a 24-hour period, women's volleyball will travel to Athens, W.Va., to face NCAA Division II-affiliate Concord University on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
