Volleyball Receives Fifth Seed at USCAA National Tournament

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The United States Collegiate Athletic Association today announced seeding for the 2011 USCAA Volleyball National Championship with Southern Virginia University receiving a fifth seed in the ten-team tournament.

After going 16-10 under first-year head coach Michelle Mahaffey during regular season play, women's volleyball received one of seven-at large bids to the USCAA national tournament—bids were also given to the host school, Spalding University, as well as the winners of the Yankee Small College Conference and Penn State University Athletic Conference.

The Knights are returning to the national tournament after missing last season's tournament for the first time since 2006. 

This season, women's volleyball is looking to capture its third USCAA national championship and the first since 2004 when the Knights' won their last title under then head coach Mike Harmon. Harmon also led Southern Virginia volleyball to its only other USCAA national championship in 2002.

The tournament, which will be held in Louisville, Ky., from Nov. 10-12, will begin on Thursday, Nov. 10 with pool play starting at 11 a.m. Pool play concludes the on Friday and will be followed by a two-round bracket-style tournament leading to Saturday's semi-finals and finals matches.
