Written by Chris Pendleton

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team stayed hot during Thursday's match with NCAA Division III Eastern Mennonite University as the Knights completed a three-game sweep of the Royals in front of a home crowd on Senior Night.

Junior setter Nicole Gwynn (Hamilton, Mont.) began Game 1 by serving two aces, before EMU responded with six of the match's next seven points taking a 6-3 lead over the Knights. Southern Virginia regrouped and rolled off a 22-10 run to take the opening game from the Royals 25-16.

After Southern Virginia ran away with Game 2 (25-11), EMU remained close throughout the third game before the Knights pulled out a 25-21 victory in the final set.

The Knights have now won six of their last seven matches while the Royals have dropped seven of their last eight.

Freshman outside hitter Camille Tua (Lehi, Utah) led the Knights on the evening with 10 kills. Gwynn dished out a match-high 14 assists, while sophomore Sara Harmon (Buena Vista, Va.) came in to record 10 assists.

Senior outside hitter Brynn McGinn, who was honored before Thursday's match along with fellow seniors Becca McConaha (Twin Falls, Idaho) and Staci Pence (Columbia Falls, Mont.), led all players with 12 digs.

Women's volleyball has one day to recover before hosting a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 22 with Peace College and Hollins University.
