BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Southern Virginia University volleyball team scored a win over Penn St.- Mont Alto,3-1, but could not continue the momentum, as they fell to Lynchburg by a 3-0 score, and ended the season at the SVU Tri-Match. The Knights faced off first with the Lions, and dug an early hole, as they trailed early in the first set. Behind the kills of Tori Tuttle, the Knights clawed their way back little by little, to eventually record the 25-17 first set win.
Ali Krebs, playing in her last match as a Knight, led the way for the offense with 23-assists in the match. A host of Knights played, as the second set went the Knights' way, 25-21. Bryndy Anderson and Brynn McGinn both recorded 7-kills, as the team was clicking on the offensive end. Nicole Gwynn was stifling PSMA's attacks as she recorded 17-digs in the match. The visitors bounced back in the third to make a game of it, as they recorded the 25-22 win.
SVU finished off the match in the fourth, as they scored a convincing 25-17 win, and had the visitors on the ropes, only to see the Lions put up a small fight to get the game closer. The win got the Knights to 15-17 on the season.
The Knights had a rematch with Lynchburg in the second match of the day for SVU. Earlier in the season SVU had faced off with the Wasps, and fell 3-0. Looking to make the rematch different, the Knights jumped to an early lead, only to see the visitors rush back to get a 25-17 win. McGinn was the leader for the Knights, with 10-kills.
The second and third sets went in a similar fashion, as the Wasps were able to keep the necessary momentum for the three-set win. Shyanne Ison was able to register 7-kills for the Knights, as they ended the tri-match with a 1-1 record for the day.
The loss ended the teams' season with a 15-18 record.
