Knights Sweep Salem And VIC

BRISTOL, Tn. - Two 3-0 wins over Salem College and Hosts Virginia Intermont College, gave the Southern Virginia University volleyball team a three game win streak, and gave them traction heading in to the final week of the season. SVU came out first against Salem, and was able to use a balanced attack, as they saw off the challenge from the Spirits. Tori Tuttle had a career day, as she recorded 10-kills with no errors, and had a hitting percentage of .526. She was joined by Shyanne Ison and Brynn McGinn who had 9-kills apiece.

SVU recorded double-digit kills in each set, and had an astounding hitting percentage of .330 as a team. The Knights were driven by Ali Krebs' 23-assists.A relatively error free game saw the Knights make mistakes only seven times in the hitting game. SVU faced few challenges in the match, with the need for only 6-total blocks, and 30-digs.

The 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 win pushed the Knights to 13-16 on the season, but SVU had little time to savor the victory, as they jumped back in later in the day for a match against the hosts. Ison and Tuttle reversed roles, as Ison recorded 10-kills, and Tuttle registered nine. The duo paced the Knights who again were relatively error free in the hitting game.

Nicole Gwynn was able to defensively keep the Knights going, as she recorded 12-digs, and was effective in the passing game against the Cobras. Gwynn also recorded two aces to get the service game going.

Kelsey Beck played strongly on the defensive end, with 3-block assists, and challenged the Cobras at the net consistently. The win gave SVU a 14-16 record heading in to the last few games of the season. The Knights will celebrate Senior Night in their next competition when they host Emory & Henry, Oct. 26 at 7:00 in Knight Arena.
