SVU Get Back To Winning Ways With Sweep Of Ferrum

BUENA VSTA, Va. Led by 7-kills from Tori Tuttle, the Southern Virginia volleyball team swept past Ferrum, to get back in the win column, as they won 3-0. The Knights were able to capitalize on strong defensive play, as they totaled 6-blocks for the evening, and dug 29 Ferrum attacks.

Southern Virginia started strongly in the first set, but the Panthers were keeping track of the hosts. SVU took leads of 4-points, but could not shake the visitors. Tuttle, Brynn McGinn, and Bryndy Anderson all collected 2-kills apiece in the first set, and eventually the hosts put the game to rest getting the 25-21 set win.

Attack errors had plagued the Knights in the first set, as the team combined to record 9-errors. The mistakes were corrected in the next two sets, as the Knights had only three errors in the attack game in the combined final two sets. SVU was starting to establish dominance over the Panthers, as they won convincingly 25-15 in the second set.

The Knights had rotated several starters out, and the second unit had picked up right where the first team left off. Tuttle finished her night in the second set, as she recorded 5-kills to lead the way. Roxanne Krieger came up big for Southern Virginia in the second set, as she followed Tuttle with 3-kills.

In the third set, SVU looked to put away the Panthers, and strong defensive play allowed the team to keep Ferrum to a match low of 12-points.McGinn got the Knights 4-kills, and Ali Krebs helped direct the set with strong play at setter. Nicole Gwynn had led for most of the time at the setter spot, as she recorded 16-assists. Another strong point for the Knights was the serving game, where SVU recorded 16-aces.

The Knights are now at 7-10 on the season. Up next for Southern Virginia is a trip to Roanoke, VA., where they will take part in the Roanoke College tournament. The first games for the Knights start on Oct. 8. They will take on Maryville first, and then meet up with Ferrum again later in the day.
