LOUISVILLE, Ky. Junior Setter Ali Krebs has been named to the USCAA All-American Team. Krebs was a leader for the Knights in 2009 as she was the hub of the Knight offense and recorded over 700 assists on the year. Krebs was instrumental in guiding the Knights as they returned to the USCAA Tournament for a third consecutive year.
"I'm very pleased with this award for Ali," said Head Coach Brian Pendleton. "She had big shoes to fill from last year, and she has done a great job in leading our team. She is an inspirational leader, and her play speaks for itself on the court."
Krebs was not the only Knight honoree as Rika Larsen was named to the USCAA Honorable Mention list. Larsen was an overall performer for SVU as she recorded over 150 kills, 22 aces, 91 digs, and was a defensive leader with 50 total blocks.
"Rika has done a tremendous job for us," said Pendleton. "She has done a little bit of everything for us, and that means so much to a team. She is a glue player. She helps keep everyone together by doing those small things that may not show up on stats sheets.
Krebs received another national award as she was named to the USCAA Academic All-American team. Krebs was named to the team along with Jessi Gibbons. The award goes to players who are sophomores and have a 3.5 GPA or higher.
"I'm very happy with these ladies, and their performance in the classroom," said Pendleton. "We talk about scholar-athletes on this campus, and these two ladies epitomize everything that a scholar athlete is. Great grades, and they play great on the court. This award shows what kind of quality individuals we have here at SVU."
