Pendleton Announces 2010 Volleyball Schedule

BUENA VISTA, Va. Southern Virginia Volleyball head coach Brian Pendleton has announced the 2010 season schedule for the Knights. The 2010 season will see the Knights competing against some of the best programs in the region, and will also see a tri-match hosted by SVU in late October.

SVU will be looking to gain momentum at the end-of-season tri-match as they will plan to head to the USCAA National Tournament, and improve on the team's third place finish at the national tournament.

The Knights will open in a familiar location from 2009, as they will again head to Milligan College, TN to take part in Milligan's two-day tournament. SVU will take on familiar foes in Milligan, Cumberlands, and Shorter.

Home matches between Concord and Sweet Briar will be sandwiched between the Milligan tournament, and SVU's annual trip to play in Washington & Lee's annual tournament. W&L is a consistent top finisher in the ODAC and NCAA D.III, and usually assembles a group of quality opponents for the Knights to take on.

SVU's schedule includes other ODAC foes Roanoke Lynchburg, Randolph, Hollins, Eastern Mennonite, and Emory and Henry. The Knights will take part in tri-matches set up by Lynchburg and Randolph respectively. SVU will again take part in Roanoke's tournament in October.

Southern Virginia will see new faces in Penn St.-Mont Alto (A USCAA foe), King and Averett. The Knights will take on fellow NAIA member Virginia Intermont later in October in a tri-match hosted by the Cobras.

The Knights will hope the schedule prepares them for a return trip to Louisville, KY to take place in the USCAA tournament. SVU has been consistent the past three years finishing third three times. The team has won the tournament in 2002 and 2004, and will look to make a run at the title this year.
