Krebs Named Knight Awards' Female Athlete of the Year

BUENA VISTA, Va. Setter Ali Krebs has been named the 2009-2010 Knight Awards' Female Athlete of the Year. The Knight Awards celebrate the accomplishments of teams and athletes in a season. Fan voting, and athletic staff votes determine the nominees and winners, who then have the opportunity to be highlighted on the SVU Athletics Website.

Krebs, a Junior from Lebanon, OR, led the volleyball team to another third place finish at the USCAA National Tournament. For her efforts she walked away with an All-Tournament honor.

The tournament also saw Krebs named an All-American as well as an Academic All-American in the USCAA. She led the team in assists, and was a cog for the Knight offense as they went for the month of October losing only one match, and winning 12 matches to drive them towards their third consecutive trip to the post-season.

Krebs, also got it done in the classroom where she was named an Academic All-American for the 2009 season. The honor was Krebs' second in a calendar year, as she also had earned the honor after spending time with the softball team in the spring of 2009. An incoming Senior, Krebs will be looking to lead the volleyball team to another trip to the post-season, and an improvement on the third place finish at the tournament. The Southern Virginia Athletic department wishes to congratulate Ali Krebs on her accomplishments, and on this award.

The Southern Virginia Sports Information Department wishes to apologize for the unintended delay in announcing the winner of the award. A big "thank you" goes out to the fans and supporters for taking time to vote.
