Blasko, Mulitalo Earn Individual Titles on Day One at CAC Outdoor Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's and women's track and field teams completed the first day of the Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with Derek Blasko and Baylee Mulitalo earning individual championships in the shot put.

Mulitalo's throw measured 13.16m to capture the individual title in the shot put, following up with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw. Mesi Havea placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.21m while adding a third-place in the shot put with a mark of 12.16m.

Ella Burrows finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.58m and Kailee Rucker finishing eighth to round out the women's team scorers for the day.

On the men's team, three Knights scored with Blasko leading the way with a season's best in the shot put with a mark of 15.46m for the win. Hunter Lund finished fifth in the 10,000m run with a time of 34:08.05 and Grady Sami placed eighth in the shot put.

The Knights resume day two tomorrow, May 3 with field events starting at 10:00 a.m. while the track events will begin at 10:30 a.m.
