LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's and women's track team competed in the Wildcat Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The women's team was led by freshman thrower Baylee Mulitalo who collected three first-place finishes, the hammer (41.76m), shot put (12.58m) and discus (39.34m). Ella Burrows picked up a second place finish with a mark of 12.03m in the shot put while Kanani Lasike finished third in the discus and sixth in the hammer throw. Mesi Havea added a fifth-place finish in both the shot put and the hammer.
In the jumps, Abigail Kinoshita placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.33m and followed with a sixth-place finish in the long jump going 4.70m.
On the track for the women's team, Jill Westman paved the way running a 19:52.13 to earn another win for the Knights. Both Madison Malgren and Elora Smith recorded personal best in the 800m and 1500m runs.
For the men's team, Derek Blasko finished second in the shot put with a toss measuring 14.34m. Freshman Hunter Lund also placed second in his respective event with a time of 16:12.95 in the 5000m run.
Southern Virginia travels next week Thursday, April 18 to Newport News, Virginia to participate in the Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport in preparation for the Capital Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
