LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's and women's track and field team began day one of the Dr. Jack Tom's Alumni Invitational Friday afternoon with strong performances.
Leading off for the women's team was freshman Baylee Mulitalo in the discus, setting a new school record and a new Capital Athletic Conference record with a throw measuring 43.01m placing first overall. The mark breaks the previous record by nearly two meters.
The discus also produced for the women's team a third-place finish from Mesi Havea with a toss of 37.81m and Kanani Lasike placing fourth with a throw of 34.61m, totaling 21 points for the Knights in the event.
On the men's teams, freshman Hunter Lund won the 10000m earning a time of 34:59.89. Derek Blasko finished third in the discus with a throw of 40.45m while teammate Hector Magallanes followed with a fourth-place finish with a mark of 37.41m and a seventh-place finish in the hammer.
The Knights continue day two of the invitational Saturday, Mar. 22 at 9:00 a.m. for the field events and 11:00 a.m. on the track.
