LEXINGTON, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's and women's track and field teams completed day one of the Winter Relays 2019 hosted by Virginia Military Institute with several new school records being set.
Senior Derek Blasko placed 10th in the weight throw while setting a new school record and personal best mark of 13.92m. The throw moves him into top-five in the conference.
Sprinter Daniel de la Cruz broke his own school record in the 400m dash with a time of 51.79. Hunter Lund placed fourth in his heat in the 1000m run with a time of 2:42.29 finishing 13th overall.
On the women's team, freshman Baylee Mulitalo continued her dominance in the shot put breaking her own record with a throw of 13.09m securing a fifth-place finish. Bethany Maggert set a new school record in the triple jump with a leap of 9.81m placing 25th.
The 2019 Winter Relays consists of over 25 track and field programs competing from Division I, II, and III ranks.
Day two of the Winter Relays picks back up Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10:00 a.m.
