Skousen Picks up Singles Win, Knights downed 8-1

BRONX, NY.— The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team fell 8-1 on Saturday morning at No. 17 New York University. With the loss, the Knights drop to 3-3 on the year.

Southern Virginia battled hard in doubles, with the best result coming at the No. 3 spot as Elizabeth Fuchs and Danielle Behunin fell 8-1.

The highlight of the day for the women came at the No. 5 position as Senior Lauren Skousen earned the Knights lone victory. Skousen rolled over her opponent 6-2 in the first set, before being taken to a tiebreak in the second. In a close tiebreak that got taken to extra points, Lauren was able to step up when it counted, closing out the match 6-2, 7-6(6).

In singles, Southern Virginia managed to win seven games between the top four singles spots, while Annie Aldrich had a close first set, but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6.

The women's team will return to action on the 9th of March at 2 p.m. as they host Wittenberg University.
