BUENA VISTA, Va. — Southern Virginia University Director Vice President and Director of Athletics Deidra Dryden today named Tom Snelson as the next head women's tennis coach.
"Tom is one of the most talented coaches I have ever worked with," said Dryden. "He has the technical knowledge and strategic mind that will lift the women's team after performing well last season. He also adds his expertise as a great player in his own right, allowing him to relate to our student-athletes and lead the program to achieve their goals."
Snelson will succeed Dryden who was last month named the University's Director of Athletics. She previously served as the head women's tennis coach for the past ten seasons.
"I am excited to work with the women's team," said Snelson. "The first season always brings challenges for any team. I am fortunate to inherit a reliable program from Coach Dryden. She did a great job creating a winning culture and I look forward to having another great year."
The women's tennis team recorded an NCAA-era program best with a 15-5 overall record while finishing 4-3 in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Snelson will be at the helm for both women's and men's tennis programs, having served as the head men's tennis coach for the past four seasons.
Last season with the men's program, he led the team to a 13-6 overall record and a 4-3 finish in CAC play while coaching three players to All-CAC honors and the No. 22 doubles pair in Division III.
