ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team defeated Elizabethtown College on Thursday afternoon in a 5-4 battle.
The Knights (12-3) went down 2-1 after doubles with their lone point coming at the No. 3 spot as the duo of Annie Aldrich and Audrey McBride took down their opponents 8-6.
In singles, Southern Virginia split the first four matches as Morgan Blount and Alyssa Sewell won at the No. 5 and 6 singles flights 6-3, 7-5 and 6-0, 6-2 respectively. The Knights dropped their matches at the No. 1 and 2 spots, giving the Blue Jays (8-2) the lead in the match 4-3.
Lauren Morrison and Audrey McBride were the last two on the court, both needing to win in order for the Knights to win the match. Morrison finished first, taking down her opponent in a tight super tiebreaker 2-6, 7-5, 11-9.
Tied at 4-4 with the match on the line, McBride went the distance to a third set tiebreaker where she dominated her opponent 7-1, giving the Knights the 5-4 victory. McBride's final score for the match was 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(1).
Southern Virginia will return to action on the 12th of April as they are set to take on Harford Community College at 3:30 p.m.
