Women’s Tennis Bests Virginia State

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team is now 2-0 after besting NCAA DII opponent Virginia State University 6-3.

The Knights came out strong early on in the match. Despite No. 1 doubles falling 8-3, both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pulled through with their matches to put the Knights up 2-1 heading into singles. 

No. 3 Rachel Christenson, No. 4 Natalie Teets, No, 5 Laura Elko and No. 6 Mercedes Matley were able to finish off their respective opponents in straight sets, clinching the match for the Knights.

Despite valiant efforts from No. 1 Alex Arbuckle and No. 2 Elizabeth Fuchs, Virginia state was able to add two points to their overall score.

The Knights will be looking for their third straight win on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. at the Knight Tennis Complex.
