Women's Tennis Makes Huge Strides in 2016-17 Season

Buena Vista Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team has finished 2017 with a 10-7 record, their first winning season in four years.

With two seniors, two returning players from the 2013-14 team, and several talented freshmen, the Knights were bound to make an impact this season.

Five of the women had winning records this year, Natalie Teets (Sorrento, Fla.), Micah Morse (Canby, Ore.), Kelly Worthington (Naple, Fla.), Anna Bowers (Provo, Utah), and Emmalee Erikson (Lund, Nev.). Natalie had the most wins on the team leading with an 11-4 record in No. 4 singles.

This year, the women's tennis team thrived at home, going 7-1 when given the home court advantage. Despite their success, they fell just short of the Capital Athletic Conference playoffs this year.

"I was pleased with our improvement from the 2016-17 season," head coach Diedra Dryden said, reflecting on the season. "I appreciated the leadership that team captain Lauren Morrison gave us, and I look to build upon the commitment we saw this year for the 2017-18 season."
