Women's Tennis Earns Win Over Visiting Averett

BUENA VISTA, Va. –The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team overtook visiting Averett University with an 8-1 victory Tuesday evening at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.

The Knights gained victories in all three doubles matches on the day. Kirsten Laurence and Katelynn Tlustek did not lose a game at No. 1 doubles, winning 8-0 against Averett's Jewel Dale and Jessie Gomes. First-year players Lauren Morrison and Micah Roberts dropped one game in their match at No. 2 as they won 8-1, while Anna Evans and Kari Stollenwerk took the No. 3 doubles match, 8-4.

In singles competition, Averett's Annalies Jobsis overcame Southern Virginia's Evans at No. 5 singles, winning her match 8-4. The Knights took the rest of the singles matches as Morrison, Laurence, Roberts, Tlustek and Stollenwerk all came away with victories.

Southern Virginia improves to 5-9 on the season, while Averett drops to 1-11.

Women's tennis will look to continue its win streak right away as it hosts NCAA Division II member Virginia Union University on Wednesday afternoon. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
